Northampton Town Community Trust recently organised and oversaw the local stage of the EFL Girls Cup.
The tournament, which is for year 7 and year 8 girls (under 13), saw local secondary schools invited to compete and be in with a chance of representing the Cobblers in the latter stages of the tournament.
The cup sees each EFL club host a local tournament, with the winners advancing to the regional finals with the national finals being held at Wembley Stadium!
With nine teams competing on the day, the teams were put into two group stages with the top two of each group advancing to the semi-finals.
Moulton School and Science College played their way to final with wins against Wootton Park, Weston Favell Academy and Caroline Chisholm. Wootton Park, who were last year’s local champions, beat Caroline Chisholm, Abbeyfield and the Duston School to book their place in the final for a second successive season.
In a tight, hard-fought final, both teams played some fantastic football and were technically very strong, although chances were hard to come by. Moulton scored the winner late in the game, securing a 1-0 victory to book their place in the regional finals!
Josh Oldfield, who organised the event for Northampton Town Community Trust said: "The standard of football was high in quality throughout and was a credit to the girls and their schools. It was also great to see the girls enjoying their football and the games being played in such good spirit. The day was a huge success and we look forward to working with Moulton as they advance into the regional finals! A huge thank you to Caroline Chisholm School for hosting the tournament, and for all of the schools who competed!"
