Cobblers under 18s coach Jon Brady was delighted with the performance of his team in Wednesday night’s FA Youth Cup second round win over Swindon Town at the PTS Academy Stadium.
First half goals from Jack Daldy and Morgan Roberts set up a tantalising third round tie away at Arsenal.
“We started the game well and Morgan Roberts really set the tone early on with his runs in behind,” he said.
“For the first five minutes we were a little edgy but then we started creating a lot of chances. It was a great corner delivery from Scott Pollock and a great little flicked header from Jack Daldy for the first goal and I felt we were quite comfortable in the game from thereafter. We moved the ball well and it was great to get the second goal before half-time.
“We went all out from the start and we killed the game off early. The boys gave everything, their work rate was relentless and they ran themselves into the ground.
“Our game management was good, I don’t think Bradley Lashley had a save to make so the defence can be proud of that.
“For a League 2 club and a category 3 Academy to be playing a Premier League side is a fantastic achievement. It’s going to be a challenge but we are really looking forward to it. We played Liverpool earlier in the season which was a great experience and that stands us in good stead to go and play Arsenal.”
