Caretaker boss Dean Austin expressed his pride in the club as he reflected on the final game of the season, a 2-2 draw at home to Oldham.
“I’m very proud of the boys,” he said.
“It’s been a difficult week but the effort, application and desire was there again from everyone.
“Mentally relegation is a hard thing to go through but the boys gave it everything.
“I thought we should have won the game and I was disappointed with their second goal because I didn’t feel it was a free-kick.
“I’ve really enjoyed the last few weeks but I haven’t thought too much about the future. I have to sit down with the Chairman and we both have to speak about how we see the club moving forward.
“We’ve gone down but we’ve gone down with a fight.
“If tomorrow was the start of League 2 and I was going in with that group of players I’d be pretty happy.
“They are a great group, they will learn from this and they will come back strong.”
