New Northampton Town manager Dean Austin said he wished that pre-season started tomorrow, even if that thought gets him into trouble at home!
“I’m excited and I can’t wait to get started," he said.
"I actually wish pre-season started tomorrow so we can get down to work but I don't think my wife would be too impressed to hear that, we have a holiday coming up first!
“But that shows my passion for the role and the challenge ahead. We have a decent base to build from and I’m buzzing for pre-season already.
“We have got a very challenging road in front of us but I’m looking forward to getting started.
“The Chairman and the board obviously felt we made a bit of an impact and I think that we did but we have got a lot of work to do now.
“Becoming manager won’t make any difference to the person that I am and the way that I coach but the decision making is obviously now down to me.
“Football is my obsession and always has been but in the last five or six years I’ve not really been obsessed with being a manager.
“This opportunity came around and I did have a lot to think about but I just felt that if I was going to do it, now was the right time and this club, with all the potential it has, is the right opportunity.”
