NORTHAMPTON TOWN LADIES THROUGH TO THE LEAGUE CUP FINAL

Cobblers win away at Leicester City on Sunday

26 March 2018

The Northampton Town Ladies travelled to top of the Premier Division side Leicester City looking to reach their second cup final of the season.

The Cobblers started the game well with Leah Stacey hitting the post in the first minute after good work from both Emily Dumore and Georgina Tear to work the ball through to her.

Leicester then came into the game, scoring the first goal of the game in the 10th minute, when the Leicester centre forward managed to get in behind the Northampton defence.

The rest of the first half was a nervy affair, with few chances for either side.

Northampton Town knew that they needed to step up their game to have a chance of progressing to the final against a strong Leicester side.

Good pressure from Emma Dunmore on a number of occasions nearly resulted in an equaliser for Northampton, and it was in the 61st minute when Georgina Tear played a ball through the Leicester defence for Dunmore to collect, round the keeper and tap into the back of the empty net for 1-1.

Leicester piled the pressure on with a number of attacks, but the defence held firm to keep the game level.

As extra time was looming, Emma Dunmore found the ball at her feet with only the keeper to beat, which in true Dunmore style she did with aplomb!

This was a great win for the team to progress to the League Cup Final beating a team which is currently top of the league above! Northampton Town will play Eastwood Ladies, who are also in the Premier Division, in that final, date and time TBC.
