After a busy season and a hectic month of community cup finals, festivals and charity matches, the pitch at the PTS Academy Stadium is now under going its summer renovation work.
The pitch hosted 27 first team matches last season, as well as 34 community matches and seven tournaments in the month of May of thousands of members of the local community took their opportunity to play at the PTS Academy Stadium. Now though, those games have come to an end and it is time to give the pitch some summer TLC to ensure it is ready for the 2018/19 season.
However, as Groundsman Sam Shirley has been explaining, the work the pitch will undergo this summer will be less than in some previous years.
"Over next few days we will be scarifying the pitch, taking out the debris from the surface, we will then spike it and put around 2 million holes in the pitch to break up any clay underneath," he said.
"We will then seed it, add sand and in around 2 weeks, after watering heavily, we will hopefully be cutting it again.
"Generally we do a heavy renovation every 3 years but we did that last year, this is year 2 now, and so this year is a lighter renovation.
"The pitch played well again this season. We had some luck with the weather but the pitch stood up really well.
"The pitch has also coped well with the community cup finals, the community tournaments and the events we have held in the last few weeks and we are really pleased with it."
The 2018/19 fixtures are released on June 21st, with the new season set to begin on the weekend of August 4th/5th.
