22 PLAYERS HAVE TRAVELLED TO SPAIN

Dean Austin with a squad update as the players get down to work

Northampton Town manager Dean Austin says his squad have settled in well to their Spanish pre-season training camp.

The Cobblers boss is impressed with the facilities, where his coaching staff and a 22 strong squad will spend the next week, stepping up preparations for the new season.

Among the 22 players on the trip, is Academy defender Jay Williams, a player Dean Austin has very impressed with.

"Jay has done well and deserves to be out here," said Austin in an interview on iFollow.

"He has worked very well and really impressed me. He did well against both St Albans and Brackley and he deserves to be in the squad out here.

"We have a growing influence of homegrown players from our Academy in the first team squad and that is good to see.

"We have brought 22 players out and that meant a few have stayed at home.

"That's never nice, but we have 2 players for every position out here and a good balance of defenders, midfielders and attackers and those players who aren't here will be working hard back at home."

Luke Coddington, Joe Iaciofano, Yaser Kasim and Billy Waters are not on the trip, while a visa for Junior Morias would take 7 days to come through so he too is training back in Northampton for the week.
