Cobblers defender reviews Monday's training sessions

Hello everybody, thank you for reading this blog. After a tough first day yesterday, all of the lads slept well and woke up this morning raring to go again. We started the day off with breakfast which we all eat together in the hotel from 7.45am. The food so far has been first class and set the lads up for another morning of hard work.

Before each training session, we go through pre-activation work. This is done to make sure our body is fully prepared for the stress it will be put through during training. It normally consists of plenty of upper and lower body stretching, work with medicine balls, resistant bands and foam rollers. After a couple of circuits of stretching and loosening up, we get to work.

I won't give too much detail away about the specific drills we were doing, as a lot of it will be preparing us for the challenges to come this season. However, there's been plenty of work with the ball which always helps when doing fitness work as you don't think about the running aspect of it too much, but you're still getting the work into the legs. The attitude, not just this week, but since the first day of pre-season at Moulton has been spot on and we're doing everything we can to be ready for the first game of the new campaign.

There was also a good competitive edge to training today. One of our drills was 1 v 1 against a team-mate on a small pitch with small goals. Neither player wants to get taken on or concede which makes for a competitive session, but it's always played in good spirits. We then adapted this to make it 5 v 5. 

After the morning session, the lads went back to the hotel for a shower and then straight to lunch. Again, we all eat together and pick from a selection of freshly cooked meat, vegetables and rice etc. The fresh fruit is brilliant too, we'll never go hungry here!

We then either went for a sleep to recover, or we could go for a massage to relax after a tough morning. We then had a snack before getting ready for another session this evening at 7pm. The weather has been fantastic and it was actually a few degrees hotter this evening than it was this morning.

Tonight's session was more of the same, plenty of hard work and a willingness throughout the squad to impress and improve. There's a great spirit among the group and we all get on really well together. From the staff to the young lads everyone gets on well and that shows in training. We then had dinner at 8.30pm this evening and headed back to our rooms to chill out ready for tomorrow.
