Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink praised the effort and commitment of his players as he reflected on the narrow New Year’s Day defeat to league leaders Wigan Athletic.
“It was a very positive performance even though we lost,” he said.
“It didn’t help how quickly we conceded but the response was very good and on another day we come away with at least a draw.
“We need to get these kinds of performances consistently and if we do that we will give ourselves a good chance to win matches.
“We need to make more of the key moments in games and we need to take our chances.
"I couldn't fault the effort or commitment of the players, our work rate was excellent and there is plenty for us to build on."
