FAILURE TO TAKE FIRST HALF CHANCES LEFT JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK FRUSTRATED

The Cobblers boss looks back on Saturday's game

Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was frustrated that his team weren't able to take any of the chances they created, particularly during the first half, as he reflected on Saturday’s goalless draw with Oxford.

“We are very frustrated that we couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net today,” he said.

“In the first half we were very positive and we created a number of chances but when you are on top you need to be clinical.

“I can’t fault the players, I thought they were excellent, especially in the first half. We lost the midfield a little bit in the second half and got a bit stretched but even then we still had chances.

“The team did well today and we created enough chances to win the game but we just didn’t get that little break that you sometimes need.

“We wanted to win the game and If I had a second striker on the bench I would have brought him on but Kevin van Veen is injured and Boris Mathis was taken ill on Friday.

“I didn’t want to take Gboly Ariyibi off but before he came here he hadn’t played for a month and he’d hardly trained. He was getting fatigued, just before he came off he was stretching his hamstrings and I couldn’t afford to gamble with him and lose another player.”
