NORTHAMPTON TOWN LADIES IN TO COUNTY CUP FINAL

Cobblers win at Thrapston

13 February 2018

The Northampton Town Ladies travelled to Thrapston Town on Sunday looking to secure themselves a place in the final of the Northamptonshire County Cup for the third year in a row.

On a muddy pitch it took a while for the Cobblers to get into the game, with Thrapston creating several opportunities early, on forcing keeper Jo Daniel into some superb saves to keep the scores level.

The home side had the lead in the 43rd minute when a long ball over the top from Thrapston saw a misjudged header from Hayley Matthews dip over the top of Daniel and into the net.

Just 30 seconds later, and straight from kick off, Leah Stacey played the ball through to Emma Dunmore who calmly rounded the keeper to bring the scores level at half time.

After the break, the Cobblers started well but failed to capitalise on any of the opportunities they created until the 65th minute when Emma Dunmore crossed for Leah Stacey to slot home.

2 minutes later a training ground corner routine saw Emma Dunmore slide in for her second goal of the game, and third of the match for the Cobblers.

This sparked Thrapston into life and they had a number of opportunities to narrow the deficit, but another two great saves from Jo Daniel kept them at bay until the 81st minute when Thrapston managed to bundle the ball in from a corner.

The home side piled on the pressure in the closing minutes but the Cobblers stood firm to secure their place in the final with a 3-2 win.

The Ladies face league rivals Corby Town in the final that will be held at Cogenhoe United on Sunday 29th April 2018.
