Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was left to rue the first half performance of his side as he reflected on Tuesday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Gillingham.
“In the first half we didn’t play at all, we were too open and we made it very easy for Gillingham,” he said.
“We couldn’t deal with the long ball, I don’t know why and tonight is a big disappointment for me especially after the performance on Saturday.
“We just can’t find the consistency at the moment and I need to put my finger on why that is. We wanted to put things right here after Rochdale and tonight simply wasn’t good enough.
“The second half was a lot better but we didn’t create much after we scored, everything was a bit too rushed and we didn’t stay calm.
“We were the better team in the second half but we weren’t patient enough.”
