Northampton Town's youth team kicked off their EFL Youth Alliance campaign on Saturday when they welcomed Cambridge United to Moulton College.
Goals from Jack Daldy and Michael Harding secured a 2-1 win for the Cobblers and coach Jon Brady was pleased with his side's opening day performance.
"It's always nice to start the season with a win," he said.
"In periods of the game we played some fantastic football but we also had to dig in and grind it out at times as well.
"We were tested on a footballing and physical front and we came through both tests okay. We were strong and resilient when we needed to be and for the first game of the season it was a pleasing all round performance."
