Cobblers boss Dean Austin was left encouraged by Tuesday evening's display in the Carabao Cup.
“It’s never nice losing on penalties but I think we need to be encouraged by the performance and the way the boys played,” he said.
“I thought we were fantastic apart from a little spell in the second half when we lost our way a little bit but that is all part of the learning process for us. Our intensity was good and we caused Wycombe problems.
“We passed the ball round well, we created chances and I thought we were the better team. We aren’t quite getting the rub of the green at the moment but that will come if we keep playing in that manner.
“The players that came in did well, it was good for Lewis Ward to get some game time and the signs were there tonight that Junior Morias is going to cause teams a lot of problems.”
