COBBLERS WAIT ON FACEY'S FITNESS

Full back could be available to face the Imps

3 August 2018

Cobblers boss Dean Austin is waiting on the fitness of defender Shay Facey as he finalises his team for Saturday's season opener against Lincoln City at the PTS Academy Stadium.

Facey (ankle) is rated as 'touch and go' for the game while Junior Morias could make his debut.

“I’ve got a massive selection headache in terms of options in the squad, but it’s a nice problem to have,” said boss Dean Austin.

“Shay is going to be touch and go but he is making good progress.

“He’s working hard but we’ve got a long season ahead of us and we want all the players to be available for as much of the season as possible.

“There is no point taking any risks with anyone for the first game if it’s not warranted.

“Junior is very close. He’s been with us here for a couple of weeks now and even when we were in Spain he was here working hard.

“He might not affect things from the start on Saturday but he could potentially from the bench.

“He had a problem with a tendon in his ankle last year and he is fully fit but he just got an infection in the cut which put him back in terms of playing because he couldn’t get his boot on. He’s fine now and he’s right there in the mix.”
