It was a local derby for the Cobblers on Easter Monday as they travelled to Peterborough United. Leon Barnett, Sam Foley, Daniel Powell and Sam Hoskins all came into the side as boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, still without John-Joe O’Toole who served the final game of his three-match ban, made four changes to the team that started against Charlton on Good Friday.

Barnett headed wide from an early Matt Grimes corner and both Matt Crooks and Chris Long drew saves from Conor O'Malley as the Cobblers started the game very much on top.

Peterborough took the lead from their first foray forward, Liam Shephard's free-kick headed in by Jack Baldwin.

90 seconds later it was 2-0, Jack Marriott lofting the ball over Richard O’Donnell from another long free kick forward.

Marriott had a chance for a second when he was played in by Gwion Edwards but Barnett was in the right place at the right time to make a vital interception. The Cobblers continued to create chances though with Crooks seeing a shot blocked by Baldwin and Foley heading wide.

The off-side flag was raised when Marriott headed in a Marcus Maddison cross at the start of the second half. Kevin van Veen came on in the first change for the Cobblers, Daniel Powell, booked in the first half, making way.

Steven Taylor denied Long a clear shot on goal after some good work by Foley created an opening for the on-loan Burnley striker. Foley then went agonisingly close midway through the second half, the midfielder on the stretch to connect with a van Veen cross to the back post.

Ash Taylor was shown a straight red card when the referee adjudged he had brought down Marriott and the Cobblers played out the remainder of the game with ten men.
