John-Joe O’Toole returns to the Cobblers squad for Tuesday night’s re-arranged game at Blackpool after completing a three-match ban.
Ash Taylor is however unavailable for selection following his sending off at Peterborough on Easter Monday.
Loan players Hildeberto Pereira (Legia Warsaw), Gboly Ariyibi (Nottingham Forest) and Boris Mathis (Everton) have all returned to their parent clubs.
"JJ is a warrior and he has got a vital part to play in these five games," said caretaker boss Dean Austin.
"I've known JJ a long time, I coached him at Watford when he was 13 and he is a real character.
"Ash is absolutely devastated, he's been first class this season and he's a leader but we can't do anything about that now. You have to play the hand you are dealt.
"One player's misfortune is another's opportunity and if whoever comes in does well then they have a chance of keeping the shirt."
Austin also confirmed that a couple of the club's youth team players have been training with the first team in the last few days.
"Sean Whaler and Morgan Roberts have both been training with the group," he said.
"I love seeing young players come through and both of them have done really well. They've not been fazed in training and for me age is just a number. If you're good enough you will get a chance."
