ASH TAYLOR RED CARD APPEAL UNSUCCESSFUL

Defender must serve 1 match ban

5 April 2018

Northampton Town's appeal against the red card shown to defender Ash Taylor in the Easter Monday game at Peterborough United has proved unsuccessful.

Taylor was sent off by referee Michael Salisbury in the 79th minute of Monday's game after being adjudged to have fouled Jack Marriott just outside the penalty area.

After reviewing the incident the club launched an appeal. The club are very surprised and disappointed that the decision has not been overturned as video evidence suggests that not only did Marriott actually trip on the ball Leon Barnett was level with Marriott and providing cover.

The club have asked The FA for a full written explanation of the reasons that the appeal was unsuccessful.

Taylor must now serve a 1 match ban, and will miss the away game next week at Blackpool.

After learning that the appeal was unsuccessful Dean Austin said: “This decision is disappointing but we have put it behind us and move on. We are in a difficult position and aren’t going to get any help from the outside, as a group and as a club we must come together and come out fighting”
