JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK LOOKING TO BUILD ON SATURDAY'S WIN

The views of the Cobblers boss as Portsmouth come to Sixfields

Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is looking forward to Tuesday night’s home game against Portsmouth.

Northampton Town go into the game looking to build on Saturday's 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, but Hasselbaink says his side will need to be at their best on Tuesday night.

“Saturday was a good start but Portsmouth is going to be another difficult one,” he said.

“I couldn’t have asked for any more from the players in my first week and their application has been excellent.

“They have all worked really hard and they gave me everything on Saturday.

“The energy was good, we dropped a little bit too deep but I was just glad we hung on to get the three points because they deserved it.

“The win gives us a little bit more trust and belief and that’s what they need."

George Smith and Shaun McWilliams both picked up knocks against Doncaster but Hasselbaink is hoping to have both available for Tuesday night.

“We will have to wait and see but hopefully they will both be okay. They should be fine.”

John-Joe O'Toole is progressing towards fitness and is hoping to be available for selection in the next couple of weeks.
