Northampton Town manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink heaped praise on Daniel Powell after Saturday’s 2-1 win at Gillingham.
Powell opened the scoring just before half time with a superb goal, and Hasselbaink has said he rates the player very highly indeed, Powell just needs to believe in himself a little more.
“I thought Daniel was the best player on the pitch on Saturday,” he said.
“He does so much work for the team, so much work in the shape we play, and that is why he has been playing in the team.
“He needs to believe in himself a little bit more. He needs to come out of his shell a little bit more, we’ve been working hard on that with him and we will keep working with him because he has all the attributes you could ever wish for in a player.
“He has power, he has pace, he has technique, he can run at people, he can shoot, he can score goals and he needs to score more goals. I was pleased he took the responsibility on Saturday.
“He shows in training what a good player he is. He just needs to be brave enough to let go, to take a chance, to show us what he can do in matches. Saturday should lift is confidence because he is a very, very good player, he just needs to believe that himself a little more and we can help him with that.”
