Shaun McWilliams, Lewis McGugan, Daniel Powell, Billy Waters and Sam Hoskins all came into the side as boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink made five changes for the visit of AFC Wimbledon. Alex Revell (suspended) and Marc Richards (thigh strain) joined the list of absentees. John-Joe O’Toole (groin) was named on the bench for the first time this season.

Chances were at a premium in the first half but it took a 42nd minute finger tip save from Dons keeper George Long to touch a powerful Daniel Powell shot over the bar.

Powell headed wide following a positive start to the second half from the Cobblers. There was a moment of danger at the other end when McWilliams did well to intercept a header at the back post from Andy Barcham.

Wimbledon made the breakthrough on 61 minutes, Lyle Taylor playing in Harry Forrester and his shot went in off the post despite Cobblers keeper Matt Ingram getting a hand to it.

The Cobblers responded well to falling behind, a vital clearance denying Sam Hoskins a certain equaliser from Ash Taylor's driven cross.

Barcham fired over from 10-yards before John-Joe O’Toole came on with just over ten minutes to go. Fellow substitute Dean Bowditch then went close with a shot from distance.

Sam Foley had a shot blocked as the Cobblers pressed in stoppage time but there was to be no late equaliser for the home side and the Dons held on to claim the three points.
