Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said his team paid the price for a 'passive' first half performance as he reflected on Tuesday night’s Emirates FA Cup first round replay defeat at Scunthorpe United.
“The Emirates FA Cup is a brilliant competition that we wanted to be in for as long as possible,” he said.
“We are disappointed to be out but I had to make changes tonight because we still have certain players who can’t play three games in a week and I have to prioritise.
“That said we still put out a team to compete and in the first half we didn’t do that, we were far too passive.
“We were better in the second half but we needed to be better for the 90 minutes.”
