JUSTIN EDINBURGH ADMITS TO TOUGH DECISIONS

3 May 2017

Justin Edinburgh wishes departing players well

Cobblers boss Justin Edinburgh says he has had to make a number of tough decisions since the end of the season.

Adam Smith, Zander Diamond, Neal Eardley, Paul Anderson and Emmanuel Sonupe have all departed Sixfields this week, and Edinburgh says the circumstances were different for each player.

“Every decision I’ve had to make has been tough but especially so for the players leaving the football club,” he said.

“Paul’s contract has come to an end and for reasons he wants to go and look for a fresh challenge.

“He did activate a clause in his contract for appearances and we spoke but he is looking for a new challenge and so we decided it was best to part company.

“With Neal it was a really tough decision but a logical one.

“Right-back has been a fiercely fought position and I couldn’t really justify having three right-backs.

“All the players played a part for me, it wasn’t an easy situation to turn around when I came in but they grasped what we wanted to do and I want to place on record my gratitude.

“They leave with our best wishes and I wish them all every success for the future.”
