JUSTIN EDINBURGH ON IMPORTANCE OF SUMMER RECRUITMENT

Justin Edinburgh prepared for a busy few weeks

Having completed his first new signing with the arrival of Daniel Powell on Friday, Cobblers boss Justin Edinburgh knows the importance of the club's summer recruitment plans.

“Recruitment is key to anything,” he said.

“We want competition in all areas and I don’t really feel we had that this season.

“It was job accomplished in terms of keeping the club up but we have to work hard now to get the right players and personnel into the football club so that we can kick on.

“Head of Recruitment Andy Melville has been working tirelessly in the background and we have spoken at length about players.

“The budget is good, as a manager you always want more but the Chairman and the board are very supportive of what we are trying to achieve."

The Cobblers boss went on to explain the type of player he is targeting.

“We need players that can change games, I don’t think we really had that towards the end of the season because of the squad we had and the injuries we picked up.

“It needs to be a flexible squad, we need to try and get the blend right and make sure that we bring in the right characters as well.

“The dynamic of the group needs to be right and for any team that has been successful the spirit has been good.

“We’ve set our sights high but we understand where we are at and we know that we might miss out on certain targets for all different reasons but that won't stop us being ambitious and trying.

“We want to get players in early and the sooner we can assemble a squad the better. Tomorrow would be great but that is unrealistic.

“We have already spoken to some of our other targets and hopefully in the next couple of weeks things will continue to happen.”
