NORTHAMPTON TOWN SIGN YASER KASIM

Cobblers bring in defensive midfielder

4 July 2017

Northampton Town have signed Yaser Kasim on a 2 year contract.

The 26 year old has been linked with Bristol City, Charlton Athletic and clubs in Portugal this summer as well as being offered a new contract by previous club Swindon Town, but Justin Edinburgh has agreed a deal to bring the defensive midfield player to Sixfields.

Yaser began his career at Brighton & Hove Albion and after loan spells with Luton Town and Macclesfield Town, he moved to Swindon Town in August 2013.

Amid rumours of interest from Premier League clubs West Ham United and Swansea City, he played a key role as the Robins made the League 1 play off final in 2015, appearing 44 times for Swindon that season.

In all he made 139 appearances in his four year stay at Swindon Town.

"Yaser is an incredibly talented player," said manager Justin Edinburgh.

"He has attracted interest from clubs at this level, in the Championship and abroad this summer and we are confident we can bring the best out of him.

“Yaser is a good age, he has a fair amount of League 1 experience and he knows what this level is all about.

"In his time at Swindon the form he showed led to him being linked with Premier League clubs and we believe we can help him produce those displays on a consistent basis in a Northampton Town shirt.

"We have a very good player on our hands and we are sure he will prove an excellent addition to the squad. We have been looking for this type of player who balances well with the other midfield players at the club and we are delighted to have signed Yaser."
