The Northampton Town youth team continued their pre-season campaign with a trip to Wellingborough Town on Wednesday night.
A very young Cobblers side performed very creditably against their more experienced opponents, going down 2-1 to a last minute goal.
"This was a very worthwhile exercise for the youngsters," said coach Jon Brady.
"We were up against a strong, senior side with experienced players and we stood up well. We were a little bit naive at times but there were so many positives to take from the game. We hit the post and probably deserved a result but were beaten at the end.
"Even so, the boys would have learnt an awful lot from the game and I was very proud of their display."
Morgan Roberts was the Northampton Town scorer.
