JUSTIN EDINBURGH HAPPY WITH SUCCESSFUL PRE-SEASON

The Cobblers boss reflects on Saturday's final pre-season friendly

31 July 2017

Cobblers boss Justin Edinburgh was pleased with the test his side overcame in Saturday’s final pre-season friendly against Newport County.

“It was a good work out relative to what we are expecting at Shrewsbury,” he said.

“Newport gave a very good account of themselves which we expected and we got out of the game what we needed to.

“Our performance could have been a bit better but we won the game and we got some good minutes into the players.

“Fitness levels are good and the attitude and application of the players throughout pre-season has been first class.

“We’ve brought in a lot of players and that can take a little bit of time to gel but with a lot of games coming up in August and September I’m sure it won’t take long for everybody to bed in.

“One or two players are carrying little niggles but hopefully they will be back as soon as possible.

“John-Joe O'Toole, Brendan Moloney and Shaun McWilliams will step up their training this week and they are not too far away.”
