CONFIRMED! NORTHAMPTON TOWN COMPLETE SIGNING OF MATT CROOKS

Midfielder signs from Rangers for undisclosed fee

18 July 2017

Northampton Town are pleased to announce the signing of Glasgow Rangers midfielder Matt Crooks for an undisclosed fee.

The 23 year old, 6ft 4in midfielder began his career with Huddersfield Town before joining Accrington Stanley in February 2015 where his outstanding form attracted the interest of a number of clubs, and he signed a pre contract agreement with Glasgow Rangers in January 2016 and moved to Ibrox the following summer.

He returned to England by joining Scunthorpe United on loan in the January 2017 transfer window, and Crooks scored three goals in twelve appearances for the Irons as he helped them reach the 2016/17 League 1 play offs.

Crooks has attracted a host of interest this summer and the Cobblers have won the race to sign a highly sought after player.

“We are thrilled to have secured Matt,” said manager Justin Edinburgh.

“He is a very talented player with a big future ahead of him. He has played at this level and was one of the best players coming out of League 2 when he went to Rangers. We feel he has the potential to get even better and believe he is a top signing for us.

“He was outstanding for Scunthorpe last season and played a part in helping them to the play offs.

“He will bring a calming influence to the team. He is comfortable on the ball and also flexible in that he can play in front of the back four or further forward too.

“Matt will form part of a strong and well balanced midfield unit where we have options and competition and we are looking forward to seeing how it all fits into place."
