The Cobblers caretaker manager reflects on Northampton Town 1 Scunthorpe United 2

Cobblers caretaker boss Paul Wilkinson reflected on Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe.

“It’s another frustrating and disappointing afternoon for us in terms of the result,” he said.

“We controlled a lot of the game but we didn’t really take advantage of our opportunities.

“Defensively we gave away two poor goals and if you do that against a top team like Scunthorpe you will get punished.

“After last week we expected a response from the players and I think we got that, it’s just frustrating that we’ve ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline.

“It’s never easy when you are on a run like this but the players have to keep working hard day in day out to try and grind out results.

“They are going to have to dig in and scrap for every point and make sure that if the opportunity arises next week they are ruthless in both boxes.”
