Cobblers defender helps nation to 1-0 success

Northampton Town defender Gabriel Zakuani skippered DR Congo to a 1-0 win in their African Cup of Nations opener against Morocco on Monday.

The game wasn't without incident for Zakuani, who limped his way through the final 10 minutes of the game after appearing to pick up an injury.

With his side having already used all three substitutions, and having had a man sent off, Zakuani remained on the field for the closing stages of the game and later tweeted: 'So proud of my team and country today! Top of the group onto Friday now! I'll update on injury once I know.'

DR Congo are next in action on Friday against the Ivory Coast.
