The fitness of Gabriel Zakuani is currently being assessed ahead of this weekend’s game at Walsall.

Zakuani returned to Sixfields on Friday after DR Congo’s exit from the African Cup of Nations last weekend.

“We’ve had dialogue with Gaby which is good,” said boss Justin Edinburgh.

“He wasn’t quite fit enough to play in the quarter-final on Sunday but he feels the injury is improving all the time.

“The team met with the President of DR Congo on Wednesday and he was back with us on Friday.

“This weekend might come a bit too soon for him but we are currently still making our assessment.

“His fitness needs to be right and we won’t risk him if he’s not ready.”

Alex Revell, Sam Hoskins and Brendan Moloney remain sidelined, while boss Justin Edinburgh will need to decide which of the loan players to leave out with five permitted in the 18 man squad.
