Neal Eardley (calf) is a doubt for the Cobblers final game of the season against Gillingham on Sunday but David Buchanan could return to the squad after serving a one-match ban.

“Sunday will probably come too soon for Neal which is a big disappointment,” said boss Justin Edinburgh.

“We will have to wait and see but it is a real shame because Neal was fantastic for me in the first few games I was here.

“I felt the team was a bit unbalanced at Bury for different reasons, we didn't have the options we needed because of unavailability and you are always going to miss players like Buchs and John-Joe. It is also worth considering we have still got players like Brendan Moloney who are coming back from injury and they have to be managed as well.

“It’s been difficult but there are no excuses, we weren't good enough.

“Shaun McWilliams was our best player last Saturday and that says a lot about him. Some of the senior players would probably admit themselves that they let him down but to his credit he didn’t let their performance affect him.”
