David Buchanan's run of 106 consecutive appearances for Northampton Town will come to an end on Saturday.

Buchanan and John-Joe O’Toole will miss this weekend's trip to Bury but Michael Smith is set to return to the squad after recovering from a leg injury.

Buchanan and O’Toole are both set to serve a one-match ban after being sent off in Monday’s draw with Shrewsbury.

“Michael will be back for Bury,” confirmed boss Justin Edinburgh.

“Buchs and John-Joe have been excellent for us but it’s an opportunity for others to come in and put in a performance to show me what their value is to the football club.

“Aaron Phillips did well on Monday and we will look at that. It’s not always easy when you have to switch sides but if called upon I’m sure he will come in and do a job.

“Shaun McWilliams is in the forefront of my mind and he will certainly come into my thinking for Saturday. We are bedding him in and the big thing for me with young players these days is keeping them grounded.

“He’s got to keep working hard and as long as he keeps doing what he has been then he’s got a chance.”
