In the first round of the 2016/17 Emirates FA Cup, Northampton Town took on Ryman League side Harrow Borough at Sixfields. Rob Page named an unchanged starting eleven with Alex Revell on the bench after serving a one-match ban.

Harrow started brightly forcing a couple of early corners but it was the Cobblers who took the lead on 6 minutes, Paul Anderson with a stunning strike from the edge of the area.

Marc Richards side-footed home from five-yards to make it 2-0, David Buchanan providing the assist.

Zander Diamond spurned a chance to extend the Cobblers lead further from a Matty Taylor free-kick while JJ Hooper shot into the side netting.

After a slight lull in play Gabriel Zakuani did well to block a shot from Harrow striker Lewis Driver before Marc Charles-Smith saw a shot comfortably saved.

Substitute John-Joe O’Toole, on for Jak McCourt with the second half only just underway, set up the Cobblers third goal of the afternoon, his deflected cross headed in from six-yards by Marc Richards.

O’Toole then headed wide from close range as the home side pressed for a fourth.

Alex Revell replaced Richards in the Cobblers second change before Sam Hoskins struck the woodwork from distance.

John-Joe O’Toole’s close range header made it 4-0 on 70 minutes while Matt Taylor saw a free-kick saved by Luke Williams. Alfie Potter then came on for the closing stages in place of Paul Anderson.

Another excellent free-kick from Matt Taylor made it 5-0 and there was still time for a deserved goal for JJ Hooper, he finished from close range in added time having been denied countless times late on. 6-0 was how it finished as the Cobblers booked their place in the second round draw.
