WALKING FOOTBALL SQUAD TOOK PART IN FOOTBALL LEAGUE REGIONAL FINALS

17 May 2016

Squad did club proud in regional event

On Saturday, Disability and Inclusion officer Russell Lewis took a group of Walking Football players to represent Northampton Town in the Football League Regional Finals.

Teams taking part included Luton, Wycombe, Charlton, Reading, Crawley, Stevenage, Barnet, Peterborough, Leyton Orient, Wimbledon, Southend and Colchester
The teams were split into three leagues with the winners playing each other in the finals with the eventual winners representing the region in the national finals at St Georges Park.

Northampton started with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Crawley, then followed a draw against Charlton and a win against Wycombe before a defeat against Colchester meant that we played Luton Town in the fourth place play off.

All the players enjoyed the day and many thanks to Northampton Town for supplying them with a Cobblers kit for the day.

Walking football is really popular at sites throughout Northamptonshire and the Football in the Community scheme are running taster sessions on Saturday 21 and 28 May at Thomas Becket Catholic School. Becket Way Northampton, NN3 6HT from 9.30am to 11.30am with the cost £3 per session.
