ROB PAGE - RETAINED LIST AND FUTURE RECRUITMENT ALL ABOUT PUSHING THE CLUB FORWARD

Cobblers boss on the decisions to offer contracts to two and release four

Rob Page says he took on board plenty of advice before deciding on the retained list, and has outlined his plans for future recruitment.

“Having only just arrived it would be unfair for me to cast judgement on the players,” he said.

“I have had a lot of guidance from the chairman and I’ve spoken to Chris Wilder as well and I don’t think there is a lot wrong with the squad.

“Josh Lelan might be a bit of a surprise but we’ve made a decision as a group about what we think is best for this football club.

“Right-back is an area we will be looking at now and we need two players to cover every position.

“With the loan rule changes next year we are going to need to make sure that we have a big enough squad to cope going window to window and we will be looking to add a bit more quality to push the lads that are already in the squad.

“We want to keep all the players that we’ve got here but you can’t stop speculation.

“I know I’ve inherited a good group of players but we will look to add a sprinkling of quality to that.

“We have quality in the group already here but you always want to improve and we will take a good look at what’s out there.

“With the players we’ve got I’m confident that we will more than hold our own at League One level but we have got to manage expectations as well and we know it won’t be easy.”
