Rob Page excited by Sixfields opportunity

New manager Rob Page says the chance to take over at Northampton Town was an opportunity he couldn't turn down.

“I’m delighted to be here and it’s a fantastic opportunity,” he said.

“It all happened quite quickly but once I’d had that initial meeting with Kelvin Thomas it was really a no brainer for me.

“It’s a fantastic club on the up and to inherit a group of players with the character and the quality that they showed to win the league quite comfortably is a great opportunity.

“It was tough leaving Port Vale and I’ll always be grateful to Port Vale and their supporters for giving me the first opportunity to manage and I will never forget that.

“It wasn’t an easy decision but from a career point of view I think this is the next step for me.

“To come into a football club that has already got the foundations in place and to be able to build on that is something that definitely appealed to me.

“It’s a fantastic football club with a good group of players and what this club achieved last season through adversity was unbelievable.

“That is credit to the management, the players and the supporters and to win the league as comfortably as they did was a fantastic achievement."

The new Cobblers boss says his planning for next season is already well under way.

“I was very impressed with the meeting that I had with Kelvin Thomas and you need that backing and that drive from the top," he said.

“He’s got a vision for the football club on and off the field and I wanted to be a part of that.

“I’m really excited about the challenge ahead and I can’t wait to get started.

“The players will be full of confidence and my job is to make sure that we don’t change too much and that we keep that momentum going.

“I know League One really well and there are going to be some fantastic fixtures for us to look forward to.

“I’m looking forward to the first day of pre-season already, it’s an exciting time and I’m really looking forward to introducing myself to the players."
