LAST MINUTE GOAL SECURES LEAGUE TITLE FOR NORTHAMPTON TOWN LADIES IN DRAMATIC FINISH

23 May 2016

Northampton Town Ladies win title by one goal!

Billing United 0-8 Northampton Town

Northampton travelled over to Billing United for the last league game of the season knowing that a win by 8 clear goals would make Northampton Town Ladies Champions.

An eight goal success would mean they would finish on the same points and goal difference as Peterborough United but would win the league on goals scored.

The Cobblers started the game in complete control, moving the ball around well and created a number of chances but didn’t find the breakthrough until the 25th Minute when Cloe Woodward scored the opening goal of the game after finding herself one on one with the billing keeper and slotting home.  Isla Fleury then scored from range to make it 2-0 at half time.

In the second half Beth Hope made it 3-0 after a superb 25-yard strike into the left hand corner before Zoe Boote made it 4-0 after cutting in from the right wing to score.

Heading into the last 15 minutes the cobblers still needed four goals to secure the title and Cloe Woodward quickly scored three in 8 minutes to make it 7-0 before Captain Eden Brown headed home an Amy Marshall corner in the 89th minute to make it 8-0 and ensure the Northampton Town Ladies won the league on goals scored.

They finished level on points with Peterborough United and also level on goal difference meaning the title was decided on goals scored with Peterborough scoring 36 and the Cobblers 37.

Northampton Town Ladies: Amy Marshall, Saraya Phillips, Claire Stancliffe, Steph Knight, Eden Brown, Beth Hope, Zoe Boote, Georgia Tear, Cesca Partridge, Cloe Woodward, Aimee Smith. Subs Isla Fleury , Harley Collyer
