FOCUS: 5 OF THE BIGGEST HOME FIXTURES THIS COMING SEASON

22 June 2016

We look at some of the mouthwatering games coming up in 2016/17!

The new sSky Bet League One fixture are out, and below we focus on five of the most eagerly anticipated games at Sixfields of the new season.

MK DONS - SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD
The Cobblers and the Dons have met a few times over the last few seasons in cup competitions. Last season the sides played each other in the third round of the FA Cup, the Dons levelling things up late in a 2-2 draw at Sixfields before the Dons won 3-0 in the replay. Dons were last here in August 2013 for a League Cup tie.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED - SATURDAY NOVEMBER 19TH
It has been too long, far too long, since the Cobblers and the Posh locked horns. Posh have only visited Sixfields once since December 2005, and that was in September 2008 when the two sides played out a 1-1 draw, Colin Larkin equalising an early strike from George Boyd in front of 6.520 supporters. Fans of both clubs will surely welcome the chance to restore the Cobblers-Posh games to the fixture list, and will be eagerly awaiting this one.

COVENTRY CITY - SATURDAY JANUARY 28TH
The last time Coventry City played an away game in Northampton was in January 1990, when a Steve Berry goal saw the Cobblers pull off a shock 1-0 FA Cup victory over their then top flight opponents. Their last league game away to Northampton was away back in March 1967, however that isn't the full story of course. Coventry City actually used Sixfields to play their 'home' games for a period from August 2013 to August 2014, and that will give the Sixfields fixture this season some added spice.

OXFORD UNITED - SATURDAY MARCH 25TH
Another local derby in a season where there are plenty to choose from, will see the Cobblers welcoming Oxford United from just down the A43. United visited Sixfields early last season, Sam Hoskins scoring in a 1-0 win where the ten men then held on for the second half after Jason Taylor had been sent off and Adam Smith saved the resulting penalty.

SHEFFIELD UNITED - SATURDAY APRIL 8TH
The visit of Sheffield United would have been one of the highlights of the new season anyway, but the return to Sixfields of Chris Wilder and Alan Knill will give the game an added level of interest. The former Cobblers manager and assistant manager left Sixfields at the end of last season and will be looking forward to their first return.
