DAVID CORNELL READY TO BATTLE FOR A STARTING PLACE

23 June 2016

New keeper looking forward to the challenge

New Northampton Town signing David Cornell says he can't wait to get started at Sixfields.

The former Swansea City keeper, who was with Oldham last season, says he is looking forward to the challenge of competing with Adam Smith for a starting place.

"I spent last season at Oldham and played 25 games or so, and now I have a chance to come here," he said on signing.

"I have played here a couple of times, we've had some good games and I know some of the lads already here. I have spoken to them and they have had plenty of positive things to say about the club.

"I spoke to Raheem Hanley last week to congratulate him on his move here and now we have linked up again and it will be good to see him.

"Adam Smith had a great season last season but I am happy to challenge anyone for the number one shirt and I am looking forward to it. It will be tough to try and dislodge Adam but I see it as an exciting challenge to get started, to work hard and to see what I can do.

"I have been at Swansea for most of my career so far and have been involved in the squad for some fantastic games. I have been out on loan to gain experience so far in my career, this is the next stage for me and I hope to do well here."
