Manager Rob Page was delighted with the effort and attitude shown by the players as they returned for pre-season training on Friday.
The squad met at Moulton College and spent the morning running before moving on to possession based drills followed by upper body work and Page was happy with how the squad applied themselves.
He said: ''It went really well; the attitude of the players has been spot on like I anticipated. There’s been a lot said about what they achieved last year and we knew there was a good group here. What we’ve brought into the squad will enhance that and help us move forward and I’m really encouraged by what I’ve seen on the first day.
''They’ve come back in good shape and they know that they can’t be coming back in needing two weeks to get back up to any kind of level of fitness. They’ve got to hit the ground running and show us what they’ve got and that makes our job as coaches and performance coaches a little bit easier.
''They know pre-season isn’t easy. It doesn’t matter how much running you do on your own there’s nothing like coming back in with the boys and that pressure of winning races and performing well.
''We tested them this (Friday) morning with the fitness side of it and that hurt them a little bit, then we did some high intensity possession work and then introduced them to Zuu work which is all upper body work and they’ve all done a good session this afternoon.
''We’ll be in every day this week. We’ll hit the ground running again on Monday and then the games will come thick and fast. We’ve also got a great week lined up in Loughborough next week so we’ll get some more hard work into them ready for the games ahead.''
