PAUL WILKINSON GIVES HIS ASSESSMENT ON THE OPENING FEW DAYS OF PRE-SEASON TRAINING

6 July 2016

Wilkinson happy with how the squad have trained so far

Assistant manager Paul Wilkinson says that the squad have responded well to the first few days of pre-season training at Moulton College.

The players returned last Friday ahead of a full week of training this week and Wilkinson is delighted with how the players have applied themselves so far.

He said: ‘’We’ve only been in for 4 days but the lads have been very good in their application and everything has gone very well.

‘’To be fair most of the lads have come back in good condition. Most of them look after themselves well and we tried to make sure they did little bits over the summer and they’re in very good order. From the first day onward they’ve looked great.

‘’What happened last year was fantastic for the club but that’s gone now and we’re looking forward. It’s up to us to try and build on that now.

‘’I think everybody feels like it’s the first day of a new school when you meet up for the first time but I already knew one or two of the players so it’s been easy to settle in.

‘’Every new challenge is exciting and it’s a great opportunity to come into this football club at this moment in time.

‘’Coming in at the start of a season helps with the preparation. You do get pre-season to work with on things whereas if you come in during the mid-season then you have to hit the ground running and that can be difficult. But preparations have started well and we’ll continue that over the next few weeks.

‘’It (Moulton College) is a great facility and having somewhere in the same place to come and train everyday means we don’t have to ‘to and fro’ here there and everywhere. It gives the players a base as well and it’s exciting for them but also gives the meaning of going to the club every Saturday which is a big thing for them and it’s important.

‘’The pitches are good; we can keep all the boys together here as well which is important for the camaraderie and we’ve got the use of the swimming pools and other facilities if we need them. The college have been fantastic to us so far and hopefully we can have a long relationship with them.’’
