NORTHAMPTON TOWN SIGN STRIKER JAMES COLLINS FROM SHREWSBURY TOWN

5 January 2016

Collins makes Sixfields move

Northampton Town have signed Shrewsbury Town striker James Collins on loan until the end of the season.

The 25 year old, 6ft 2in front man has scored seven times in League One for the Shrews this season, being a regular in their side with twenty three starts to his name in 2015/16 having netted 17 times in Shrewsbury’s promotion winning campaign in League Two last term.

Despite having only just celebrated his 25th birthday, Collins has already netted 79 career goals having represented Aston Villa, Swindon Town and Hibernian as well as Shrewsbury Town.

"We are delighted to bring in a player of this quality and it is important that we strengthen the squad when we are doing well," said manager Chris Wilder.

"We are not looking to take anything away from the squad, we only want to add and James adds quality and depth to the existing squad.

"He has scored goals at this level and played a key part in a promotion winning team in League 2 last season.

"He fits into our system and the way we want to play, we have known about him and followed his career for a long time and it is pleasing we have been able to add a player of this quality so early in the January transfer window."

Collins will wear squad number 19 while at Sixfields.
