Nicky Adams and Lee Martin came into the Cobblers side for the visit of Wycombe, replacing Marc Richards and Lawson D’Ath. Richards failed a late fitness test on his Achilles and missed the game as a precaution.

In a bright opening 15 minutes James Collins and Ricky Holmes shot wide while referee Graham Salisbury turned down the home side’s penalty appeals when Lee Martin went down in the area, instead booking the Cobblers winger.

Anthony Stewart headed over from Wycombe’s first corner of the afternoon while for the Cobblers Zander Diamond saw an effort wide. Sam Wood’s hesitance then cost Wycombe a good goalscoring opportunity on 28 minutes after some good play by Luke O’Nien.

John-Joe O’Toole was denied by a last ditch tackle by a Wycombe defender as the end to end action continued.

Collins couldn’t quite connect with an inch-perfect ball in from Holmes as the Cobblers upped the ante after a slow start to the second half, Holmes then firing a shot just over the bar.

Collins then headed over from 8-yards as the game reached the hour mark before the Cobblers pressure finally told on 63 minutes when Danny Rose arrowed a shot into the top corner after good build-up play between Martin and Holmes.

Adam Smith did well to palm away a Stewart drive from 25-yards before Lawson D’Ath came on for Nicky Adams in the Cobblers first change.

D’Ath got underneath a shot after good hold up play from Collins as Gareth Ainsworth made a double substitution for Wycombe, bringing on Max Kretzschmar and ex-Cobblers trialist Gozie Ugwu.

With just over ten minutes to go Jason Taylor replaced Holmes, Sam Hoskins then coming on for Martin.

Five minutes of injury time was added but Chris Wilder’s side came through to record a ninth successive victory in the league, a new all-time club record.
