Cobblers defender taking part in African Cup of Nations tournament
Rob Page is preparing to lose defender Gabriel Zakuani to the African Cup of Nations for a few weeks.
The tournament begins on January 14th, with the final on February 5th, and Page knows Zakuani, who will captain DR Congo, will be a miss.
“Gaby is off to the African Cup of Nations and we will lose him for the next few weeks," he said.
“He can play against Sheffield United and we are still in discussions to see if we can have him for the Bradford game because that game is on the very edge of the FIFA call up period.
“He’s been a key player for us and he was excellent in the game at Oxford.
“He loves defending and that’s why I signed him. He’s a warrior and he will be missed.
“We’ve got Zander Diamond coming back and Rod McDonald who acquitted himself well at Bradford but it’s an area we might look to strengthen in as well.”
