BRENDAN MOLONEY HAS UNDERGONE KNEE SURGERY

6 December 2016

Defender set to miss the next few weeks

Defender Brendan Moloney has undergone surgery on the knee injury that forced him to miss the Bolton Wanderers game.

The operation means that Moloney is likely to be missing for the next 6 to 8 weeks, but Cobblers boss Rob Page hopes to have Moloney back in action sooner rather than later.

“Brendan had surgery on his cartilage on Monday,” confirmed boss Rob Page.

“It’s not the worst case scenario because we thought initially he could be out for around ten to twelve weeks but hopefully we will have him back training in six to eight weeks.

“Of course it’s a blow because Brendan has been exceptional ever since I threw him in at the deep end against West Brom, he’s a great defender and he also gives you that attacking option.

“Aaron Phillips took his opportunity well against Bolton and I think there is still more to come from him. One-on-one defending he is probably as good as David Buchanan and he does like to get forward.

“The way we play isn’t going to change but its knowing when to get forward and picking the right time because first and foremost he needs to defend. It’s about getting the balance right and he will get there.”
