Rob Page reflects on Barnsley 1 Northampton Town 2
Cobblers boss Rob Page was a happy man as he reflected on the EFL Cup first round victory at Barnsley, his first win as Northampton Town manager.
“It’s a great feeling,” he said.
“We rode our luck a little bit at times and we had to defend for our lives in certain periods but the character we showed at the end was really pleasing.
“Barnsley had chances but to come from behind against a Championship side away from home is a terrific effort.
“It was a great delivery from Matty Taylor and sometimes you just have to take your chances when they come along.
“I toyed with the idea of bringing Matty off in extra-time but after a conversation we had it was made clear that in no way did he need to come off, and that was great to hear. His fitness levels are incredible.
“We saw glimpses in the second half of how we want to play; we are still a work in progress but we are getting there.”
