Skipper of GB Deaf team holds off competition from Serena Williams and Heather Watson

Northampton Town Ladies player Claire Stancliffe has been named the Sky Sports Sportswoman of the month.

Claire, who also captains the Great Britain Deaf football team, beat off competition from Serena Williams, Heather Watson, Johanna Konta and Ariya Jutanugarn to claim the honour.

During the month, Stancliffe captained the GB football team to the bronze medal at the Deaf World Cup in Italy.

Her international career has spanned almost 10 years and the latest World Cup bronze was the fourth major medal of her career.

She claimed an amazing 74% of the vote, beating second placed Serena Williams by a huge margin.
