JJ HOOPER SIGNS FOR NORTHAMPTON TOWN

22 August 2016

Striker added to the squad

Northampton Town have signed striker JJ Hooper on loan from Port Vale until January 9th.

6ft 1in Hooper, who turns 23 in October, returns to Sixfields having made his debut for Northampton Town as a young professional back in August 2013. Since leaving Sixfields, Hooper enjoyed a successful spell with Havant & Waterlooville, his goals and performances convincing current Cobblers boss Rob Page to sign him for Port Vale in August 2015.

Hooper played 28 times for Port Vale in League 1 during 2015/16, scoring 5 times, ending the season in fine form, being named the PFA April Player of the Month for League 1 after scoring three times in the final 6 games of last season.  He has also made four appearances for Port Vale this season.

"JJ is a player I know a lot about," said manager Rob Page.

"He did a good job at Port Vale last season, I know all about his qualities and what he can bring to the squad.

"When JJ won himself a regular starting place at Port Vale towards the end of last season he was hitting the net regularly and his game developed a lot. He deserved all the accolades he received at the end of last season.

"He has scored goals for me at this level and he is a different type of striker to the ones we already have here, he gives us a different type of threat.

"I know he was here as a young player and while he may not have made the breakthrough then to play regular first team football, that experience helped him. He went away, developed, improved and has come back stronger and he is getting better and better all the time. I like players who show determination to bounce back from leaving the professional game as a youngster, that shows they have a drive and plenty of character and they are just the sort of qualities we are looking for."
