CHRIS WILDER - SATURDAY WILL BE A SPECIAL DAY, BUT WE HAVE A GAME TO ATTACK FIRST'

The Cobblers boss on Northampton Town v Luton Town

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder previews Saturday’s final home game of the season against Luton Town, after which the presentation of the Sky Bet League 2 trophy will take place.

“It will be some day and we are really looking forward to it,” he said.

“The players are professional and we’ve got a game to attack before anything else.

“We’ve got a proud unbeaten record stretching back quite a long way and we want to preserve that with a win.

“There is going to be a presentation and a celebration but before that we need to overcome opposition who have picked up some really good results recently, especially away from home.

“We want to get the maximum out of the next two weeks by playing well and we want to finish off at home on a high.

“These seasons don’t come around every year and it’s been an unbelievable achievement from everybody.

“From where we were 26 months ago it’s been a remarkable turnaround and we’ve shown a lot of good qualities to be successful this season.

“We set out to go well and we assembled a really good group of players on all fronts, tactically, technically and physically strong enough to see us through a punishing nine month season.

“I don’t think we have realised yet what we have achieved because we have just been focussed on winning games but I think on Saturday it will really hit home.

“We are a little bit gutted that we can’t get to the 100 point mark but I can’t knock anything that these players have done. They have given me everything in every training session and in every game.

“It’s been an unbelievable effort and they deserve all the praise that goes with success.

“This is a special group that deserve to go down as one of the finest groups that this football club has ever been involved with.”
